Adoring Hope

Holy Thursday

In the face of skepticism and denial,
In the face of going along casual chic,
In bliss ignorance of life, there It Is tonight.

Before us, heavy in sorrow and brimming with meaning,
The Last Supper, the meal of hope, carries the promise
Of eternal life. We are asked to enter the mystery
Of that single moment,
Understanding as little as the Apostles; that moment
Wrapping a tantalizing feast to the last ringing
Tone of Easter's triumph by and with the Sacrifice.

That we may come to table with bowed head.
That we may come to recline with bended knee.
That we may come. That we may come, indeed.
